Ambit Energy is based on a multi-level marketing business model.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-level_marketing
A quick web search uncovers some upset customers who watched their electricity bills double each month after agreeing to use Ambit Energy.
https://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/ambit-energy-mcallen-texas-c134284.html
There are several warning signs, so proceed with caution.

AMBIT has received JD Powers Awards for customer service. They have over 1M satisfied customers and over $1.5B in revenues. If you google any company, especially that size, there will be complaints. Their complaint percentage is running around .04%. That is extremely low for any type of company.
Here are some links to show Ambit's viability. https://www.bbb.org/dallas/business-reviews/electric-companies/ambit-energy-holdings-in-dallas-tx-90033973 http://hotmlmcompanies.com/ambit-energy-review/ https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/78755-judge-dismisses-class-action-lawsuit-ambit-energy/ http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/jd-power-2016-retail-electric-provider-residential-customer-satisfaction-study
All businesses get complaints. Network Marketing is a legitimate and favorable way to start your own business for very low cost and mostly no risk. Ambit is great because it is just at the tip of the Iceberg. Everything requires work.

Good thing this opportunity is not one of those. It does not imply free money for doing nothing. It does provide the opportunity to earn residual income that can be substantial if a person is willing to work for it. So this is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and people who can think long term and not just for tomorrow. Hopefully some of this group fit that description, if not I still wish all of your the best and hope to remain connected.

If it's an mlm based company 90% or more of new business members fail. Mlm is not a new miracle business scheme, it's hard work selling the product, and recruiting? new members

90% or more fail? Better odds at the roulette table. Less work and more fun.

I suggest Oldgrape p!ss off from this forum with his spam, and that this thread be deleted.
I don't think many readers here are interested in electricity supply in Japan.
Let him pay for advertising the proper way. Surely with his $1.5B in revenue[s] and 1M customers this should not be very difficult.
Oldgrape can't even spell properly. A company can have revenue, not revenues.

Well now... that's admitting you have a lot of unhappy customers for them to take class-action.
As an aside, the page doesn't even exist anymore.
Mr Oldgrape (with the emphasis on 'grape') I suggest you are a crook.

I would not say oldgrape is a crook, ambit has entered Japan from feb1st, but it is an mom scheme, and profits have be made to cover the commission and royalties which can be very high. Products tend to be expensive, or other hidden ways they can raise money. For a very experienced mlm entrepreneur with an awful lot of contacts in Japan, it might be a good move who knows. Mlm does give a chance to start your own business at a lower cost than conventional businesses.but the drop out rat is massive, it takes a lot of time and an awful lot of effort to succeed in mlm. I did it in UK with Kleeneze for two years i worked very very hard at it and earned, £600-£800 per month less advertising costs, printing costs (very low) fuel to travel to meet prospective, members, monthly meeting costs, yearly grand meeting cost. Postage costs. Probably after two years i was earning about £400 a month. Maybe if i had not left UK by now i could be earning a lot more. If anyone here has a lot of good contacts in Japan, a lot of time to devote, to this business maybe you can make a residual income. But mlm is well known for its drop out rate, and the consistent hard work necessary to make money. But nothing is for nothing is it? Would i recommend mlm business? Yes if you are prepared to work extremely hard to build your business, there is big money to be made with mlm that's definite, but it's only the most hard working resilient people that survive . And of course you have pick the mlm company very carefully, they come make a lot of money then disappear again. In UK there were companies selling water filters, phone call charges, gas and electricity suppliers, oh and many more, that no longer exist, will this one survive? Who knows . Kleeneze has been around since 1926, but still a very hard way to make money

It always amazes me how heated a discussion can become. I am no crook. The "oldgrape" refers to my history of being an aviation fuelie in the Navy. We wear purple jerseys. That is why we are called "Grapes". MLM is a legitimate business model. for every bad item about it on Google, a good one can be found. It does take hard persevering work. I'm sure some have been crooked and more will be in the future. But you can say that about business in general. Ambit will provide a service in Japan like it does here. There are no products for the consultants to buy or sell. They take the money that a normal business model would pay an advertiser and pays the consultants. Their retail energy must be competitive or they won't last in the market. It is not for everyone. I'm not providing false info or holding a gun to any one's head. I have not insulted anyone here. So please do not insult me or my integrity.

I'm always surprised that a company with such a turnover needs to share it out with others rather than just employ people. Pyramid scheme springs to mind.

Snowy i will defend mlm, it is not pyramid selling at all, there is a big difference. Japan has just opened up for other suppliers to provide energy. This company is in at the begining but of course others will enter the market and compete on the prices and thats when the mlm scheme might start to fail. But if all the rules are obeyed it is not illegal. As i have said before it is extremely hard work, the rewards can be high but it's so hard to earn the big money ,most people just give up. In the beginning Inc you work very hard indeed for very little. Reward, but as you keep sponsoring people your money does increase. Most people just feel they are working very hard for very little return and then drop out. The initial investment is usually very low but the returns are very low at first. I worked extremely hard for over 2 years out every night sponsoring new members attending a meeting ever 2 weeks, giving presentations etc etc, not easy money at all. But i wish all those involved all the best. Aim seems to be popular in Philippines, but i don't know anyone who has got rich from it here.

You are referring to retailers who are not actual suppliers. Basically I see them as administators of supply. They neither generate electricity nor do they actual delivery to the homes.
Electricity prices will skyrocket over time, just like it happened in Australia after privatisation.
Competition? That's a joke really. Look at the BIG picture:
Before privatisation a government department supplied & administered (as retailer) the supply which was basically one provider which was service orientated.
Now that part is given to private enterprise. Suddenly the same electricity supply (and the same number of customers) has to support any number of retailers, all who are motivated by profit. And profit only. Competition now requires they advertise... and have sales people running around pestering the residents.
That adds to the total cost of supply. Meaning higher prices. The more retailers, the more competition, the higher the prices will go.
It's misleading to tell people that competition keeps prices low.

A typical MLM. You don't make money unless you can convince people to get in under you. The amount of people you need is huge but they need to feed off of new people. You have to convince people to buy a product off of someone who buys the product off of the person you were buying off of to begin with. It doesn't make sense unless you look at it with rose colored glasses. Whenever you need to make money off of recruitment rather than the product it's a suckers bet.

The people who are involved with this company manipulate the internet to try to make positive things stay on top, I suggest reading the negative posts here https://www.consumeraffairs.com/utilities/ambit.html to see what the company is really about.

>>> I am so amazed every month when the power bill comes in that it is so LOW! No, I am not receiving the free energy, shut the front door when I do. The amount that I pay every month is lower and lower, OH and I am eligible for travel rewards on top of that. Hum, that is like paying once and receiving 2 things. Thank you Ambit for saving so many people money month after month!
Helpful?YesNo <<<
Who do you think is paying for their fringe benefits?
The other customers, of course.
Scumbags allright.

I don't have anything to do with this company, i have no idea how they pay their royalties, i presumed on total group sales but i really don't have any idea. I was involved in mlm in UK you were paid commission on whatever you sold and then a royalty on your personal groups sales. 21% on personal sales plus i was on 14% of my teams sales. The royalties were paid by the company not my team. Everyone who sold products got the same 21% plus royalties on any of their team, and depending on the total sales of the team they earned an extra 4% to 14% depending on sales figures. Very hard work As i said before, sales were relitively easy to get, but a lot of footwork to get your daily sales. This company i have no idea how they pay, i know they do not generate power they are like agents, whether it has staying power or not i don't know.
