Was supposed to meet up with a Pinay lady in Singapore Tuesday evening (in transit area). Arrival times carefully matched with me arriving from Phnom Penh.
She bought ticket, went to airport, got boarding pass, then a Filipina immigration bitch wouldn't let her go.
Reason: Worried about human trafficking...
What an oppressive lot...
Now I found out from another friend that my friend's friend working in Singapore was also stupid. She should have known and advised her the requirements.

This subject was discussed recently and the consensus of opinion was that this could quite likely happen and is not uncommon.

It's mainly the younger women that have the biggest problem unless your married but as long as you have documents and photos to prove you have known each each other for a long time you should be ok

I'd say where ever she got the ticket from should have known better and explained to her the potential departure problems that may occur in the airport. I think it's a lot more difficult in Clark than Manila due to the fact of all the entertainment workers that live in that area. .

I can confirm that is the case. She was told nothing and as first-time traveller is a hard lesson to learn.
I suggested she return to the agency and at least complain for not having warned her (duty of care), but politely insist for refund out of their own pocket in front of other customers.
She won't do that, and so meek Pinays get rolled again by unethical operators.

It's not just young girls that get turned away, a mid thirties cousin was turned away twice with all of the correct paperwork because the immigration officer considered that me was travelling on a tourist visa to work abroad. He was but that's not the point, he had the invertaion amd correct visa. They usually start by telling you you have a fake visa and suggest the consequences should you try and take it further.

Spruik, At the very least you should find out the name of the agency and location to warn others not to do business there.

So I guess we need an A-Z of all of the agencies in the country then. I don't see where it's the agencies fault or problem. The problem lays with the immigration at the airport, probably angling for a brown envelope to help oil the process.

Although we all know the problems that happen at immigration, every travel agency also knows (should know) that single females leaving the Philippines always have problems with immigration. That travel agency and any other agency that takes advantage by not informing the person who purchased the ticket should at least be called out. Maybe you'd rather everyone keeps it a secret so other peoples girlfriends go through the same problem?

The lady in question who was refused passage (she is 39) contacted the travel agent who said they will credit her with P1000 on a future travel.
The practise is apparently widespread, in particular with Cebu Pacific.
An old friend and experienced Pinay traveller in HK (recently married to an Australian), relayed me the following rumor:
"Some filipino say that immigration officer is connected to cebu pacific because if the traveller is really need to fly out they will get a new ticket and if the traveller bought a new ticket cebu pacific will give commision to the officer who holds the traveller..thats what the rumors i heard...modus of filipinos haha"

I asked her the name and location of the travel agency (a few times) but she refuses to say, citing possible trouble.
She did show me the boarding pass.

If that is the case then why has this not been reported to the proper Authorities as not all Government officials are corrupt

Turning passengers away at immigration has been going on for the 20 years I've been travelling to and from the Philippines and it's the first time I've heard of the ticket scam. I assumed it was public knowledge about this and I'm suprised at the shock.

If you had proof of the ticket scam you could report that. Beyond that " crab mentality" sad to say is not illegal in the Philippines. The BI employee would just fall back on enforcing the rules.
