I imported a dog, a chihuahua/dachshund. He was my best friend and I just couldn't leave him behind with anybody. Then he was stolen and I never saw him again. It broke my heart. But today I have 2 dachshunds, one dingo and 3 tom cats.

I own a Aussie Shepherd - Black . Great Friend,a herder, VERY smart, Loyal to the max. I would never dream of bringing him to the PH . Too risky for him I would think . Plus the 16 hour flight would be so hard on him I would think . stolen dogs ? Yep I have herd of this many times ! sad situation.

Hi I have a x Rottweiler which is a rescue Dog she was an unwanted Bitch I've had her from a pup and is very intelligent if a dog just goes past the house she will growl but if she hears anything unusual she will run around the back and bark up at our window , There are a few German Shepperds here and Labbys and other breeds they seem to do ok also there are many strays about and there is a dog catcher who picks these up every so often

First she will most likely be put in Quarantine I am not sure how long for , make sure they have a rabies shot and keep them out of the sun and provide plenty of fresh clean water dog food is available here, also make sure they are not left outside on their own because there are people here who will steal your dogs

There is no quarantine in the Philippines for dogs. You need to secure an import permit, an vaccination certificate with a rabies vaccine done within I believe the last 30 days. Check your stopovers to make sure about the ground temperatures where the plane will be landing. It's better to arrive in the Philippines at night so it's not too hot for the dog. It's much cheaper and easier to get the dog released if you bring the dog excess baggage then through cargo. If you ship the dog through cargo it could take several hours to get the dog released and many time overnight if the dog comes on a late night flight. Through accompanied baggage the dog will come out with your baggage, pretty simple to get the dog released.

Your lab will not have to be put in quarantine, but you will have to have her checked out by a certified vet. Make sure he is certified and that certification has not run out. Not all vets are certified. There are certain specific papers to fill out.
When flying with him you need to tell the pilot or an attendant that there is a pet in the cargo so the pilot turns on the heater or your lab may not make the trip alive.
In the airport you can easily pick him up and take him to the agricultural desk. The paperwork there was easy and just took a few minutes and he was allowed to go free with me.

Making a habit of it LOL, what do you guys recommend for yard dogs that will keep the ticks far away ? I was thinking of getting a Scalibor tick collar because I heard that Frontline is virtually useless besides very expensive.

Frontline didn't seem to work for my dog either.
My wife and dogs seem to enjoy her picking off the ticks and lice manually.

OH Dear you do have a high opinion of yourself most wives here are devoted to their Husbands .So regardless of how much money you have I doubt whether you would succeed in fact you could very well be in danger of having major surgery if you tried that on some of the wife's of expats here and I'm not joking

"The paperwork there was easy and just took a few minutes and he was allowed to go free with me".
This is only true if the dog goes accompanied baggage. If it is shipped cargo it could take from a few hours to a day (or overnight) to get all the signatures necessary to have the dog released.

What kind of Frontline are you using? Frontline is a great product. Are you using spray, tablets, collars? Where are you getting it from? Proper storage and expiration dates are important along with following the correct directions.
Bayer is a German company the same company that makes aspirin. They have a strong pet foods division making excellent products also. Those flea and tick products from Canada may already be available in the Philippines. Bayer has been in the Philippines for a long time. They didn't have tick and flea products when I was there but I did use Frontline spray, followed instructions to the letter (they list how many pumps per kilo and how often) and it was great. Frontline is produced by a French company Merial whose parent company is Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim. Big time drugs companies. I can definitely vouch for the spay. I used in dozens of times.

Charkee, There are some very serious diseases that are transmitted by ticks especially in the Philippines (Babesiosis, Ehrichiosis), that eventually will kill the dog. To rely on just picking ticks off is not the answer.

Flea and Tick shampoo in the Philippines is usually extremely strong and toxic. If you choose to use it, I wouldn't use it too often. Unless it's from a well know company (imported), I'd be afraid to use it. It may kill the ticks and the dog eventually too.

cwo4usn, I'm replying here only so others may also benefit from the information. Anything more personal or detailed just send me a private message and I'll give you my number in N.Y. Prepare the dog for the flight. 1) Let the dog start sleeping in the crate weeks before the flight starting from hours a day to overnight. 2) Check where the stopovers are (ground temperature) and how long they will be before you book your flight. 3) Arrive in the Philippines either in the evening or very early in the morning. 4) Plan out how the dog will be transported from the airport. Hopefully in an airconditioned vehicle either in the crate or with the crate broken down already. The crate is valuable so make sure you have room to take it with you from the airport. 5) Make sure you have the import permit and proper vaccination certificate and documents. The dog may now need to be microchipped if it isn't already.
San Fernando, La Union or Pampanga?

Ace, yeah and I don't want to encounter those either bab and ehr. These are yard dogs of my landlord that we like to treat kind of like pets. Therefore they roam the neighborhood and it's kind of rural like for Cebu city. They are not like house pets. The collars make the most economic sense since there are 4 of them and not really my dogs but we just like them. You have any experience with any tick collars here ? I can get them 3 pack off eBay from Thailand where I think they are manufactured to my local PO for around 1700 php. They are supposed to last 6 months.
