How should I arrange my finances, before moving to Poland

Those of you who moved to Poland, can you assist me and answer few questions
for me?
When you moved, have you kept your financial assets in US? How did you
arranged to have your Social Security checks sent to Poland? Why did you move
to the city where you live? Any suggestions on what parts of Poland are most desirable retirement destinations? How many expatriates retired and live in Poland and in what cities?
Your assistance is appreciated.

I originally come from Poland, Gdansk, and we would also love to retire there eventually. My family still live in Poland, but I have been in London for 30 years and we have now moved to the USA.
I go to Poland every year and use my american/british bank credit/debit cards for every transaction. Also I am able to withdraw cash from ATM there. All shops take foreign cards, so there is no problem with normal day to day expenses. It may be worthwhile opening a polish bank account for any bill payments etc. Poland is hoping to join the EEC in 2004, so their banking system is in line with the European system. I have also recently transferred a big amount of money to Poland to a relative's account, and they received it within a week - unfortunately my bank charges were high for this.
Good luck in Poland, I wish I was there, but will be going again in October!
