Hi All
Myself and my fiance are moving to the Tricity area in September and I was wondering if there are any English speaking groups around, or if expats ever meet up for a beer and a chat?
Thanks Andy

I'm half polish and australian still living in Australia. Few month ago I was I Poland in Tricity and also Warsaw. I must admit that I experienced to see some English speaking people in small groups of 3-4 people in places like some restaurants but more in coffee bars or pubs. I was nicely surprised that many many people from young polish generation was able to communicate in English. I believe that a lot of young people are able to communicate but some are just shy to start first. Nowadays when Poland have not major borders to the west we have a lot of tourists there hence it is more and more just necessary to be able to communicate in English specially when this language is in schools as compulsory. Major business employ young generation and at least 50 % is speaking not bad. I believe you will find more friendship in polish people then from others. Everything in life needs a time to settle hence this subject too. I just found that Polish young people are very ambitious and very well educated compare to my kids who are in Australia. ....and definitely much less lazy... Many times I manage to overhear in coffee shops what they discuss about. They just talking about studies and sharing knowledge for work opportunities. ....but in own country. .. In my times we was thinking how to run away from this country...but it was 35 years ago. Now Poland is changed and a lot. To be honest they quickly learn good manners towards them self and to foreigner's. I would like to have same in Australia where is not so rosy in big towns like Sydney. It is not so bad but here is getting worst when in Poland for better. Like everywhere in the world is the same rule ...we must adopt new culture and not to try to bend it to our needs. Anyway , I am sure you will adapt to this country . I already choose my retirement place...and it is Poland and rather say ...this days Europe with no borders without stupid rules which unfortunately is more here then people :)
Wish you best. Andrew

Hi andymuzo
I wil be learning Polish when I get there and was just hoping to find any groups that were about in the Tricity area. I do agree with you on how many people in Poland do speak English as a second language which is only to be admired. I did have one funny incident while over in Sopot I ask someone selling flower in my best Polish if the spoke English and the answer I got was no I speak French but they said it in near perfect English. Thank you for your answer good luck with your retirement in Poland

Hi Andy, I am living in Tricity for 4 months now, being an expat myself as well. I do not know too many expats around here, but we can keep in touch and maybe together we can find more and organize some activities.
