Hello - does anyone have experience with the banks and/or investment houses in Portugal? I am thinking of moving to the Algarves someplace but am nervous about the privacy and ease of access to my investment funds in Portugal.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I moved to Portugal from the US about a year ago. I still have my brokerage and bank accounts in the US and use ATM debit cards to withdraw money from these accounts. This seems to be the most economical way considering the currency conversions. I have also opened a bank account with a Portugese bank. This enables me to pay bills locally. Brokerage fees in Portugal are much higher than in the US (25 Euros/trade vs. US$10 / trade in the US) and tradeable securities seem limited.
