I am a UK citizen although I have not lived there in many years. My USA citizen spouse and I would like to move to Portugal. We are both retired. I understand I do not need a visa to move there, but would my wife need one? Thanks, David

The other short answer is Brexit.
You do realize that what your status in a couple of years will be when Brexit is finalized is an unknown now.
If you moved today, chances are you would be OK after the agreement is finalized but NO ONE can guarantee that.
The closer to the date of finalizing of the agreement you were to move, the higher the risk of being told you cannot stay without having to go through a whole new set of steps as a non-EU national and with no guarantees of being allowed to stay.
Have you considered the significance of Brexit on your plans at all?

You might be better off applying as US citizens to retire in Portugal. That would remove the uncertainty and possible hassle of Brexit.
