I saw the post of molly47a and how it was mentioned to gather people with dogs in the surroundings and that that could be very helpful and that gave me the idea to do that also! So thànk you!
And I already need HELP! Bink my Dobermann wake up this morning with a BIG SWOLLEN LEFT CHEEK... tried to call the vet in Tavira dr Helder but got an answering device in Portugese... I don't speak or understand that yet... since oktober here... so... can some one help me in this in what to do? As I have heard it could be an infected tooth and the puss getting into the bloodstream??
Thank you in advance and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Thesi

Your problem is it's Christmas in a Catholic country. You need to find a 24 hour emergency vet clinic........it may not be nearby but it,s your best bet. Your reg vet may be open on Monday. Find someone bilingual...the vet's msg may say who's covering for him.

thank you Molly, luckily my FBfriends gave also advice and tomorrow I will call and go to the vet and indeed, I need a bilingual vet clinic, this is still too hard to understand...
I have been putting icecubes in a towel to his cheek, tried to gently, clean his ears... was allowed to look in his mouth, nothing of broken teeth, just swollen inside side of cheek, he wants to eat... to drink..and sleeps with a 'vengeance' iff thats the correct word for it... ( I am Dutch ;) )
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Is there a chance he was bit by a snake? If it is swollen you can try a benadryl and see if that helps. Good luck

Thank you PresentMonkey, I go and have a look at the link and YES they are our fur babies, my Binkie is a BIG DoberlmannBABY BoY of almost 6 yrs, he has been asleep almost the whole dau except for his drinks and meals and poo and pipi... and it seems that is slunk quite a bit, put some ice cubes on it in a towel and got him to rest his head on it. After I had to sit next to him with him resting his head on me... baby boy Merry Christmas to you too PresentMonkey!

Wowww I hope NOT!! He is always NEXY or very NEXT to me and I do not let my eyes of the both... snakes... I didnot think of that... I did throw some balls in the grass aka Rio Formosa Park...
that would be the only place he is not next to me because of retrieving the ball, but I did not hear him yelp or see him shriek away... but good of you to remember me that here are SNAKES!!! I completely forgot!

Happy New Year to all of you!
With the 'busyness' of the Christmas days and the New Year, I didnot take the time to tell you what was the case with Binkie! Well as it turned out, he had an abces above one of his molars! The vet gave him 2 anti-biotic injections and then anti-biotic tablets 2ce a day for 10 days and 1once a day a different tablet for 4 days... 26th December his cheek had already sunk, while I was keeping ice to his cheek and he slept all day. But then he got better by the day and he already drove me màd again by getting the corps of a seagull at the beach; TWICE!!! But I keep in thought well thats what dogs do and brush his teeth and give him a dental stick and wipe his mouth/face! But I am oh so hàppy to let you know that he is A-okay again! Did you have a nice New Years Eve? I was invited by the neigbourhood people where my house will be ready in March and it was really nice BUT NOISY!! Something I am not used to at all hahaha! But!! It is ME who has to adjust to this countries customs and not the other way round! :) I am used to family New Years eve quiet party... karaoke maybe but no rattlers and horns and exploding balloons! Still!!! it was 100 times better then being on the cold rented appartement, I left the airco on and put the dogs under blankets and when I got home everything was okay and no pee or poo and the dogs didnot seem to have been stressed at all which u can see on their faces and behaviours... I am so lucky they feel so good even when I have to leave them a few hours alone.. Thank you for ur interest in my Binkieboy! Have a wonderful time / life in Portugal and hope to meet u once??
