My wife and I are working diligently toward a successful move to Portugal late this year. Beginning mid-March we will be on a three week exploratory trip with a focus on the cities of Cascais and Caldas da Rainha. Currently I am working through two medical coverage proposals: Afpop/Medal and MGEN group.
So, from the expats living in the Caldas da Rainha area and subscribing to either one of the plans mentioned above I would very much appreciate any input or guidance that address the following questions: (1.) Are there adequate (addressing both “expertise” and number) “in network” providers available? (2.) Are the reimbursements for out of network expenses reimbursed promptly? (3.) Are the allowed amounts for hospital coverage, doctors, dentists, etc. adequate? (4.) It appears that the Afpop/Medal coverage does not have an “in network” hospital in Caldas da Rainha – the “in network” hospital is in Leiria. Has this fact presented any problems for your family?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

We are moving to the Caldas de Rainha area by the end of the year as well. We found and excellent Solicitara (legal rep) who is handling our house purchase, Visa applications, etc and providing good referrals for bi-lingual accountant (to assist with dual country tax filings) and a health insurance broker for supplemental private insurance. We just got proposals from Grupo Portinsurance that provided 3 options (with sub-optional coverages such as dental/periodontal to choose from and wide coverage.
Am happy to provide insurance contact email if interested in getting a quote.

Hello, my wife and I are in Portugal at the moment looking at homes. Our real estate consultants live in C da R -- they are Portuguese, bi-lingual and fantastic people. We are looking at buying in Lisbon or maybe Cascais.
Please email cristina@homegest.com.pt if you need any help. Mention Erik Sprotte referred you.
