Civility

I am sorry that it appears that this may be the fourth travel forum from which I will have to unsubscribe -- all for the same reason: lack of civility. My hubby is more conservative and I'm more liberal, but we both want to get away from those people who need to spew their political opinions everywhere (usually anonymously). We've visited five countries and two continents and Portugal is at the top of our list. Some countries were better than others, but the one thing we both loved was that we weren't offended/bored/scared by people needing to spout vitriol at the drop of a hat. I like this forum and have learned a lot about Portugal and other possible new homes before and after visiting them. Is it asking too much that participants spew their own political beliefs on other sites and leave the joy of travel blogging to the rest of us?

I did send a separate email to help@expatexchange.com, citing the particular thread, "Portugal: thoughts" and asking for active moderation. Trouble is, moderation understandably costs money, which I understand, but if people are fed up with reading spewing and go elsewhere, the site will lose their audience and ability to attract paid advertising. BTW, if anyone out there is considering Medellin, Colombia (gorgeous, big city), there's a terrific blog and forum called "Medellin Living." It IS moderated , has gobs of useful info including really active personal guidance from its moderator who lives there and avoids the kind of spewing and name-calling that happens when nobody's "at the helm." It can be done. Just sayin.

NO it is not too much to ask! thanks for bringing it up. I too was finding this site really useful until last week. My first trip to Portugal is in March--excited to see what all the buzz is about!

I'm afraid the time for civility is past for the Us. We all should be speaking up and call out the as*h**es currently destroying our country. IF that offends the fascist snowflakes too f***ing bad.
