Applying for Visa

Hello everyone! We are planning to move to Portugal 01/2018. I have looked over this forum but the answer to my question still is not clear.
Would it better to apply for our long term Visa here (Colorado, US), or get the 90 day visa and apply there?
Thank you!

Are you trying to move her permanently? If so, then apply when you are at home. If you just want to stay for more than 90 days and less than 9 months then you can just come on a natural schengen(3 months) and then apply for an extension twice (90 days each). Then you have to go home and apply for the moving "schengen visa(4 months)" I know its confusing because they are called the same thing but they are different. Feel free to message me if you need any help

If you are a u.s. citizen, you do NOT apply for a 90 day visa(you are allowed to stay 90 out of 180 days in an EU country with just your US passport). IF you want to stay more than 90 days at a time, you need to complete the Application for a Schengen Visa , meet with the Portuguese Consulate in the US and receive a Type 1 "Temporary Resident Visa" which will be affixed to your passport, All of the information you need is on the following web site. it is an article by Susan Stults Korthase and explains the complete process! www.expatexchange.com/ctryguide/4216/92/portugal/united-states-citizens-moving-to-portugal-demystifying-the-paper-trail. This is the route I am taking. I was in Portugal from Dec to March, 2017(90 days) and I want to be in Portugal 6-9 months per year. I am a US citizen. Hope this helps!

Hi there,
My name is Suzana and I also live here in Colorado, but like you, planning to most probably move to Portugal. I am an American/Brazilian and already have family living in Lisbon. I would love to connect with you for us to talk about living in Portugal. I live near Denver, in Lakewood. How about you? I am a retired bilingual teacher, a grandmother and have my two sons and grandson living here in the area, but things are too expensive here, so I am thinking about selling my small apartment and moving to Portugal. You can send me a message if you would like to talk about living/moving in Portugal. Thank you for your attention! Suzana Niles
