How much insurance coverage is reasonable.?

Looking at policies and annual coverages of inpatient 100k, 30k, 15k, etc.
Since we're from the US where medical costs are astronomical, we are not sure what is reasonable here. In the states, you could easily go over 15k in one day of hospitalization.
Any suggestions?

First, be certain that it complies with the Schengen Community standards (30k euros min coverage, repatriation of body to US). Then, it depends on your health and any conditions that you think could befall you, due to family history, for example. A full blood panel costs you 7 euros; a night in a private hospital about 50 euros; a doctor's visit about 12-15 euros. We went with the highest level but could have easily been fine with the 30k/year plan, especially using Allianz.

Thanks for the advice. We are going through Allianz. While I think the 30k would be fine based in your response, my husband votes for the 100k coverage. I guess to be safe we will go with that for the first year.
It's hard not to think of US medical costs since we just moved here.
