The umbrella is probably because no actual outside company can set up in Qatar. I understand that any comapny that wants to do business there the country or Emir has 51% ownership. Most company's there I believe operate like that. Hope that helps.

Hi there,
The salary seems to be quite good as I was offered the same and checked with a few people living there. he crappy part is that they donot provide housing and that's a big chunk of the money.
If I could ask you a question?
Did you get this opportunity through a recruitment company (CLR)or by applying directly to the Asian games?
cheers.

I lived in Qatar. While salaries appear generous there, the cost of living is astranomical. A decent compound will cost you upwards of 10-15,000 QR per month versus the 5-7000 QR it was 5 years ago. And from what friends tell me, it is still rising. No foreigners can invest in Qatar. This means you cannot buy real estate, you cannot own or buy a business, and you cannot buy Qatari stocks. This makes living and making money exponentially difficult. In order to work there, you must be sponsered by a Company, which as indicated earlier, has at least 50% Qatari ownership with options for them to buy out the business after X years (it is really just a way for them to get someone else to set it up, steal technology, then own it). If you are working directly for a Arab-managed company like I was (QP), be advised that your life could borderline on unbearable. The work environment is very different than anywhere else in the world, bordering on 40's/50's style management practices and abuse of basic work ethics and what I would consider basic human rights. While the culture is interesting and lifestyle OK, the work environment was horrible and the savings not what I expected.
