No matter where you go there will be racism and I think the only thing you may experience here is that a considerable amount of lower paying jobs are held by varying Asian nationalities. I wouldn't sweat it.
Finding Expat friends will be NO PROBLEM depending on the type of group you radiate towards and your age as well as what you want to do. I am 54 and a teacher, but more importantly pretty introverted- so the weekends at the hotel bars and hanging in groups is not my cup of tea. If you want friends though there are ALWAYS people doing something... You won't even have to look.
Lastly, my Ex-husband was born and raised in Hong Kong, but when he came to America at 18 became a very Un-Asian, marrying American and leading a completely western lifestyle with NO Asian friends. No one cares now or then, so again, don't sweat it. Not really a lot to do here as in the UAE, but finding people to hang with will NOT be a problem. 80% of the population is Expat.

Thank you for your comments, it was really informative. I'm also a teacher and 29 years old. Phew! I thought it would be a lonely experience which I was dreading. Some other questions I have are, is it common to get exit permits from schools so that I know I could just escape to nearby destinations if I feel I just need to get away for the weekend? I will discuss this in my contract but just wanted to get an insight before asking. Also in terms of living expense, is 12000 QR enough for a single person in accordance to the prices over there? I'm not much of a spender, just like to relax on the weekends by going out or doing activities such as travelling. Finally how well behaved are the kids over there?

Hello- Depending on if your school supplies housing/allowance will have a BIG impact on your finances. Also if you lease a car (around 1600 to 2500 Riyal a month) or need transportation to school (many teachers share transport costs that add up quickly). Hotel stays, day passes for pool use and most forms of entertainment are also very expensive. However, The over all cost of living here will be what you make it. Teachers are not paid as well here as in other countries, so if you want to save money, or travel, you may chose to do some outside tutoring which many young teachers do and will certainly have to budget your spending. Toiletries, make-up, vitamins and any health supplements are VERY-VERY EXPENSIVE (example 41 QAR- the equivalent of about $13 USD for a can of Loreal Hairspray), and many over the counter medicines such as cold medications, pain medicines, cough suppressants, etc; are NOT available, so stuck-up before you come. Miserable is when you have a completely stuffed nose and cannot breath, but cannot get nasal spray or any kind of decongestant. And I could go on... And the kids behavior? There are no words, so be ready to rumble. I teach English to grade 7, 8 & 9 boys and let me just say learning is NOT their first priority. Also, you will probably NOT be able to get a travel visa (driver's license, internet, cable, etc), from your school UNTIL you have residency status and that can (and will), take MONTHS! ,I am a doctor in Australia was offered a job in Qatar my concern is if i decide to leave if i didn't like it is it feasible? they said the 1st 3 months is probation period.and how is life there I am Arabic in origin too.Regards.
