" Hi, This seems a very quiet forum, but somebody has to be the first. I might have the possibility to come over to work in Romania for 1 year. Is there somebody who can help me with some answers? Are there any international schools? Where? Other education in English? Which foreign languages are used most? French? English? Housing? Thanks in advance "

Hi,
I am a Romanian living in London now. I lived in Bucharest 27 years before moving here. It takes courage for a foreigner to move to Romania - therefore I am here, eager to help. If you consider Bucharest, there's quite a large expat community, they all go in few pubs, they are easy to find. There are several English education facilities in Bucharest and elsewhere. A friend of mine is in this business in Bucharest, can help outside Bucharest too. Very many Romanians speak English. It can be an intriguing experience. Should you decide moving: pbarabas@yahoo.com

I lived for 3 years as a humanitarian aid missionary in Romania and Moldova. I lived all over the country and for a long time in Bucharest. I would be glad to offer any advice or answer any questions. You'll love it.

Hello,
I saw your entry in the "expatexchange" forums. I am thinking of moving to Bucharest (from Ireland) soon and am looking for some information on accommodation. Could you let me know how much it costs to rent a nice apartment in a place like Bucharest - one with a living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen? I would be grateful for any information.
I am also curious to know what sort of documentation is required for a residency permit (I am self-employed so don't think that I would need a work permit).
Regards
Mark (MarkJRyan@eircom.net)

Hi NewMark67, while I do not live in Rumania, I have been there and have Rumanian friends here in Italy (I'm an expat American) My advice to you is beware! It's a very hungry country with a lot of shady dealings and lots of people ready and willing to fleece you because you're a westerner. Now having said that, I'll tell you the wonderful things that I learned, it's a beautiful country, breathtaking mountains, gorgeous valleys, charming little lacy wood cabins in the woods, sea side, tho I haven't been yet and the people are absolutely charming, very open and curious, more than a few, quite educated, but they have been living in such frustration for so many years and there is so little employment that, for many the only solution is to escape from the oppression of just trying to have enough to eat. They are all over western europe. I'm sure right in your town, find them and talk to them, but more importantly, take them with you once they've gotten to know you and they trust you and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I have spoken with an Italian who has a factory in Rumenia who says that the people in the south east( including Bucharest) are more dishonest than the north west, he says it's because of the gypsys, but I think it's where the money is,what there is of it anyway. Bucharest is the most expensive city for rent or purchase. My friends are from Ghalazi, there they say you can buy a beautiful apartment for 20-25,000Eu 3bed 2bath. 2007 they get the Euro too so there's probably a feeding frenzy on the horizon...been thinking about it myself. But don't know if I could live there- tho you could do so very cheaply, just from the point of veiw of relationships, when you come from a western society like ours it would be hard to feel on an equal footing, how could they not feel envious. Well there that's it for now, if you want to know more let me know.
