It all has to do with the 'footprint' of the satellite, which is the reception area. American satellites, such as DirecTV, broadcast to the United States, with some coverage to Canada. These satellites are in geosychronous orbit with the US, and 'stay' in the same position, above the Equator. You will not, in any way, be able to receive the signals from these satellites. Some American programs are rebroadcast on the European satellites, but not a whole lot. Astra satellite has CNBC which rebroadcasts some US programs, such as Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and others, but you won't regularly see the sports programs. The US military television stations, and radio stations, broadcast almost all American programs, but I don't think they're on any of the satellites. If you're close enough to receive those, you can get some coverage. I'm in Ireland, and I have a 80 cm dish and receive Astra just fine. On the Continent, a 60 cm or smaller dish would work just fine. I suggest you talk with some satellite dish dealers there to see what's available. There's a British magazine called What Satellite or something like that which has listings. --Joe
