Hi, Im a photographer planning to come to Bucharest for a year to work on architectural photography. I am wondering if anyone would be willing to correspond with me and answer some questions I have. (whats is the cost of living vs. us? what is the best way to rent an apartment (agency or not)? what things did you learn the "hard way"? How safe is the city? What is your social life like? Does anyone go to English speaking AA meetings? Stuff like that. Thanks!

Hi Andy.

The cost of living in Bucharest is close to nil if you want to.

Daily shopping costs ruffly 100 000 Lei = approx 2.4 Euros

Renting an appartment is rather expensiove though, since you are heading for the most dense city in Europe.

I was lucky to find one in the very center of the city ( at the senate, here it is particulary safe to live), at a third of the market price. If you still are out there looking for a home, contact me, since me and my wife is moving on to Sri lanka in October and this three room apartement will be free.

About AA I know nothing, but you will get a nervous break down of the red tape and daily use of bribes here.

Kind regards
Ronny

Hi Ronny,

I saw from your profile that you are Swedish. I am also a Swede and I am in the process of searching jobs in Bucarest. Could you tell me a bit about your experience of Bucarest in particular and Romania in general?Anything that shocked or surprised you? Pros and cons of living in Romania? Any Can you recommend moving to Bucarest?
