- be careful about dogs - finding jobs can be difficult - most jobs are low pay - rent is high for the amount of income one is typically able to get. - throw your trash in a trash bin, don't contribute to all the litter that is already on the streets. - learn some Romanian, for me it seemed only a small amount of the people knew any English. - always offer food and drink to any guests - hitch-hiking can be a good form of transportation. (make sure to pay something for the ride) - save money by using public transport - if you have the money, go to a private hospital - if you are going to have a baby, go to a private hospital, do not deliver in the public hospital like I did! It's very bad. - Be prepared to stick up for yourself when dealing with a doctor. Be polite but realize that they think they know everything when really they don't. - You'll be better respected if you are polite and hospitable. - most things are actually almost as expensive, equally expensive or more expensive than in the prosperous countries since Romania joined the EU.

Don't come with high blood pressure and grow a thick skin! Living in Romania can be very frustrating and annoying. Be prepared to listen to the THOUSANDS of dogs barking, yapping and howling all night. Accept any medical advice with a pinch of salt. If you learn Romanian you must pronounce it exactly otherwise a) you will not be understood b) you will be corrected Bring warm clothes for winter (minus 17 average) and cool clothes for summer (can get up to 40 degrees). Warm weather from April to October usually.
