Hello from bels in Russia

I'd like to introduce myself; I am British and now live in Russia

I've been living just outside Moscow in the Oblast as they call it. Why did I come here? Because I met someone from Russia and got married, and as a result I now have a 22 month old son and a 10 year old stepson. We make our living by teaching groups of children in a small classroom within a state school, and are considering of perhaps establishing a language centre in TEFL in the future.

I have experienced the Russian red-tape as a foreigner in Russia, going through the system of personal invitation visa and returning to UK to renew it, up to applying for temporary residency visa. I am now a temporary resident and will soon be applying for permanent residency. I have also registered for an entrepreneur's license.

Hopefully I can share my experience with others who are considering coming to Russia either for a visit, to work or do business in Russia.

I would also like to communicate with other expats who are also living in Russia

Hello bels,
I read with great interest that you decided to live in russia with your husband and children and are teaching children english there, good on you,it must be difficult to adapt but easier when you are with the ones you love, and your husband being russian.I too am married to a russian citizen she is from the region of Nizhny Novgorod and we also have a two children, our lovely baby boy 5 weeks old and my stepson who is 4 years.
we are currently trying again to get settlement visa so they can join me in the uk,first time we were refused on the grounds that my earnings were insuficiant,we were devastated by this decision so we are trying again this time using a russian lawyer in the hope this will improve our chances.
In all honesty I really dont feel very confident about our chances because of my low income,a little under £18,000 pa so I am constantly thinking about living in russia and how I can get the ball rolling so to speak, could I buy a small garden house and register myself there after applying for a tempory residents visa? I have read that the process for applying for this is very long,6 months or more, its very confusing, also I would need work there and my russian language is very basic. What would be the first action to take?as you can probably tell I am stressed about this and really dont want to be away from my family any more its breaking my heart.Any advice you have will be greatly welcomed.
Thank you

Hi Bels,

My son is traveling to Moscow in January and is looking for a room to rent, preferably near the Metro Red Line, or in the Moscow State University area. He is 19 years old, neat, polite and quiet. He will be on an internship (work visa) and will need a room for 2 months. I am trying to help him find a safe and economical place to stay. Do you know anyone who might be willing to rent a room to him for that time period?

Hello Bels,
I currently live in the U.S., but my husband and I will be moving to St. Petersburg within the next 6 months. You mentioned that you have some experience with visa and residency procedures, and I just so happen to be in need of some advice regarding the matter. We are not relocating due to employment, but we hope to live in Russia for at least a year. My best guess is that we will need 12 month multiple re-entry business visas, but this is where I get extremely confused. It is to my understanding that this type of visa permits an individual to remain in Russia for 90/180 days. I hope I am misunderstanding this.
Any advice will be helpful. Thank you.
