Hi,
I recently visited St P and fell in love with the city, the people, and the culture. I have spent my life travelling around the UK, and now want to give another country a go. I love meeting new people, and learning about new cultures. I have studied Russian history and politics, and am currently learning the language. The big issue is what do I do for work??? It will be at least 1 year before I can speak the langauge to any useful degree, so any ideas? My experience is in banking and financial services, including management. would live to meet up with locals when I next visit, which will be spring next year

Hi Bear, I came to St. Petersburg after I graduated and have been here for 2-3 years. First off, it sounds like you have business experience. That's good. International companies here prize this above Russian fluency, and most have an English-speaking workforce. Try asking outsourcing companies. You could do worse than uploading a CV to Russian job sites rabota.ru, hh.ru.
While you learn the language, you can try teaching (adults or children) or written translating (using babelfish like I did). I have contacts for both if you are interested.

thanks Nicholas, that's useful stuff (delayed reply as my laptop has been in for repairs!). I may be popping over there for a week around late December. I am planning to do a TEFL course before I go over in early summer, as I understand it is the easiest way to get work fast. I will definately put my CV on that site though - thanks again! How did you find yourself over there, if I might ask?
