I have accepted a position in St. Petersburg and will be moving over this summer. A furnished apartment is provided and the company will ship my things for me. My big question is: What are some items that may not come to mind but I should be sure to bring? Also, what should I NOT bring? I appreciate any advice!

Hi, I've been coming and going between the UK and St Petersburg for the past three years, I have found that most things we expect from our western shopping malls are available here. Prices are not cheap. Usefull to understand Cyrillic alphabet and some basic Russian!!!

I would find useful to have a converter - there are different kind of outlets in Russia.

Anything you can't just absolutely live without! They have everything in Russia now. Anything that you have to have made especially for you (medicine) and a very warm coat, boots, gloves and hat! It would be better to buy clothing there because you will fit in better and it is made for the cold.
