" I have been asked to take a 3 year assignment in Al Jubail beginning at the end of 2001. Presently, we are talking married status (I have a wife and 2 young daughters, age 7 & 10). I know very little about Saudi Arabia and would like to find out all I can. Especially concerning safety, schools, compounds, customs, ect. I have heard that if you are in town during a public execution that you are forced to watch. Is this true; I am concerned of how this might affect my children. Also, the quality of the schools is very important to me. My older daughter is very gifted and when we lived in China for 6 months it really set her back a little. Thanks for any input. "

" Dear Barry Hey Jubail is a lovely city. It has very good facilities for expats and the compounds are very good. The schools run International curriculums from America and Britain, so I don''t think you should have any difficulties. Hope that everything works out and don''t worry about public ex''s...who-ever said that to you is very ignorant. It''s very free on the eastern coast as compared to other areas in Saudi, but Islaam is not what most people think. Take it easy, enjoy your contract and best wishes. " Hi Barry,as abdulkareem pointed out what you were told is wrong. I''m british and have been in jeddah since 1990. I have never seen a beheading,it''s your choice if you wish to see one,but they are in a specific place, not done in the streets. If you love your beer,it will be hard for you(I would advise to keep away from any illegal beer too,it''s not worth the trouble) internet is restricted, concerning any sexual sites,Which i think is great especially as like you I have kids I know my kids can surf the web safely. There are numerous satalittes from america and Uk. If you have an open mind you''ll have a great time here, kids will benefit too. There are special western schools here, american and english, some with dutch or german attachment. They are usually more advanced than the schools of there countries. if you want to know anything about saudi contact me on my hotmail anytime one thing i can add it''s a place you will either love or hate, but most love it trae "
