" we might be moving to Saudi within the next few month and my wife and I are interested to receive some general information as to what to expect and some helpful advise how to prepare for this move. we both have lived long time abroad, but never in that area. we mostly spent our time in Asia and Europe and simple things like availability of international foodstuffs, clubs and social live, where to best look for housing (we are not yet sure whether we will live in Jeddah or Dammam), quality of housing (do expats live only in compounds/houses ?), what can women do if they do not work and many more day-to-day questions. we appreciate if someone living in Saudi can give us a few answers. " Hi Gary, i have not seen any reply to my question but had in the meantime a chance to talk to someone who is living there for long time already. his advise on housing was that 90 % of all expats are living in compounds and that is the best way to live there. there are different ''classes'' of compounds - some have basically everything within the ''walls'' like a samll city and most compounds have shuttle bus service for the wifes to go out shopping etc. his advise was to get as much budget for housing from the company as possible and have a look first and see the different styles/benefits of the compounds. hope that help a little "
