" I can''t speak about Al-Salam. I can comment about the Jadawel compound. There are approximately 400 villas on the compound. It is beautifully landscaped, with lots of trees, flowers, and grass. There is a large recreation center with 2 restaurants, coffee bar, small grocery store, bowling alley, weight room, racquetball and squash courts, etc. It also has a large heated swimming pool, baby pool, and a grass soccer field. As for the individual villas, they are no more than 2 years old, very large, and fully furnished. There are 4 large bedrooms upstairs (each with private bath and walkin closet). Downstairs are the kitchen/family room, formal dining room, living room, den, plus a maids room, laundry, and also a garage with drivers quarters. There are a total of 6 full bathrooms and 2 half baths. About one-third of the villas have a private pool in the back yard, but those are usually assigned based on seniority, so new employees rarely get one. The back yards are surrounded by large walls, and are very private. You may landscape the backyard any way you would like if you desire. All in all, the compound is very livable. Jadawel is located in a quiet area of Riyadh, but still within reasonable distance from shopping, etc. There are fully manned front and back gates with a large number of guards, as well as roaming guards who patrol the compound 24 hours a day. They compound is accessable only to residents and their invited guests. You will feel safe and comfortable. Most new residents of Saudi Arabia go through an emotional cycle of 2-3 months of excitement, followed by a period of homesickness, and finally settling in to the flow of overseas life. If you go into this experience knowing what to expect, and keep an open mind (no, you''re not in the USA anymore, and life is different in many ways) you will have a great experience. I''d be glad to answer any other questions about Riyadh. Dave "
