I currently live in UAE and it looks like my partner is moving to SA - is it permissable to horse ride as a female in SA and can I take my horse with me from UAE. Any information would be great.

I have lived in UAE and KSA. As far as I am aware, horse riding by females in KSA is done only at licensed horse riding schools. There was one in Jeddah at a private resort when I lived there. I am not that well informed on the horse riding world but others may have more info for you.

It has been several years since I lived in SA, but at the time Aramco employees in Dhahran had a stables where Aramco employees could keep a horse and ride. Women owned horses and rode there. Other, large Aramco facilities, such as at Abquaiq, probably also had similar facilites.

I never heard of public facilities, but I had no need for them. Another responder on this string mentions some possibilities. Your partner might inquire about this resource of the HR department of the company/agency for which he will be working.

Tove, that's good to know. We are planning to come to Riyadh from the US in the next few weeks. We will be looking for a place where our children can continue their horsebackriding lessons. Do you have a business name & contact info? Once we are there we can look into resuming lessons. Thanks!

Hi everyone- I haven't been on this site for a while and see there are a few questions about riding in riyadh...

I looked into the importing bit again- and i found that the only way of getting a horse in here is to have a saudi "lease" it from you- should think most stables would be helpful with it- horse people are the same whereever in the world...

I have chosen NOT to bring my horses in because of the limited turnout they offer, my horses are used to long lovely hours on lush grass... and the constant wandering around in deep sand does show up after a few years- most horses here get leg-problems..and keep in mind they will have to stay in ALL day long mid may to early september.. riyadh is HOT!

but there are lots of horses to ride and enjoy!! The school i work at has just recently got new management ans safety is a part of the teaching (safety is usually non excistent...) and the horses are of good quality :) send me a mail on [email protected] with phonenumber, ill phone with details of the ridingschool :)

good luck and welcome to saudi!!

Where in Saudi will you be moving to.
We live in Riyadh and there are definitely stables around. Are you just looking to ride or are you interested in bringing or buying a horse.
In any case bring your riding gear. Obviously the summer months are extremely hot for riding although it is possible. From October to May would be a better time.

Hello,

My husband, 3 year old daughter and I are relocating to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from Los Angeles, CA for business for several years. We plan to transport our beloved Clydesdale Draft Horse, We need recommendations on great horse stables or horse properties for lease in the area. (Or realtors that handle these—if this is even allowed/recommended for westerners to keep horse on property?). That’s been a personal dream.

Atleast as a good start:
Does anyone have experience with local fill care Horse stables in the area that have large stalls for rent?

We will be working right In the AR RAWDAH district of Jeddah, so the home and stable should be no more than 15-20 min drive ideally.

Any ideas new expat friends?

Kindly,
Horselady
