i arrived in riyadh 4 weeks ago and i have to say it was very strange and alittle daunting, now i dont think twice re grabbing my abaya on way out to shops etc,i live on agreat compound and would be delighted to show you around and have you over to dinner,i will advise i did want to leave for the first 2 weeks ,i just took a deep breath and ow love it,they say it really does take 3 mnths to feel at home here.have a safe journey and have you got an abaya to put on at the airport you can get them on ebay new for 10 pounds, any questions email me on michellebreslin@hotmail.com .

Hey,
I am currently in riyadh and i work at king faisal hospital. I am also Australian and the truth is i love it in Riyadh. As long as you abide by their rules and customs you can actually have a great time, there are parties weekly if you have the contacts etc and the shopping is awesome, you will probbaly be in Saudi already if you check this site.
Feel free to email me at salsxa@yahoo.com In fact i may have already met you!
Sally

I just moved to Riyadh since January. There is pretty much nothing to do our here. The American community is pretty boring and inactive. Other expat communites are much better in communication. Better bring your friends with or your will be bored to death.

hello,
Riyadh is really a strange place. you better know the rule here, some are important as the follwing:
1- shops closed at prayer times ( 5 times a day, each time for about 30 minutes) 2- for you girls you have to wear something called ( abaya) black coat everytime you will leave your work and compound
3- shops close at 12:00 am , if you need something urgent, after that time visit MEEDS and EUROMARCHE, 3- be careful of the crazy drivers who drive like nuts 4- when you take a cab negotiate the price, any trip within riyadh should not exceed 20 riyals, except airport. 5- you should not bring alcohol with you 6- when you are drunk,or you want to drink do not go to the streets
thats all,
contact me shall you need any assistance iyad@elm.com.sa
