Hello, please excuse the first blank message. I tried to edit it and erased it instead. I am moving to Jeddah and wanted to get any and all advice from anyone who is living there now.
I am now trying to consider what to pack, since I am only bringing few items...any suggestions on things you can't find in Jeddah?
Also, any lessons learned that you want to warn me of, so I won't make the same mistakes?
Again any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I lived in Jeddah for 6 years, but don't live there now. However, you should enjoy Jeddah. Now what to bring, bring clothes for warm weather and I mean warm. I should say hot and being on the Red Sea you will have humidty too. Now if you like the beach bring a bathing suit, because there are some nice beaches in an area called North Abhur. It does get cool at night in the so called winter, so you'll need a few long sleeved shirts, may be a light jacket. Actually you can buy a lot of things here and good quality too.

I don't know where you will be living, but in the compounds you will meet many people and they can fill you in on things to do. If you like scuba diving the diving is great in Jeddah and if you don't and want to learn how to scuba dive I can hook you up with a great dive instructor. If you want to learn how to square dance, I can give you information on that too.

Outside of the compound you know you will have to wear an abaya (the black covering for women). Within the compound you can wear normal clothing, but consertive. NO short shorts, mini-skirts, etc. If there is a pool and depending on the compound you can wear a bathing suit. Some compounds, hotels, etc, have hours for female and males a the pool. In some places they cannot be together.

I don't know if you are married or single, but if single you will have to eat in the family section of all restaurants. Single men and women cannot be together legally. If caught you both go to jail.

I don't know if I have answered your question or not. If you would like you can send my more questions to my e-mail address bobj692001@yahoo.com.

Take care,

Bob

Thanks for the information! It was very useful. I think I may learn to scuba dive, since many people are saying it is a great experience on The Red Sea. Yes, and even square dancing sounds like fun! Thanks again!

I'm also going to teach in Jeddah and I noticed bobj69 that you know of some info on square dancing. Would you mind giving me the info on that?
Thanks so much!
