Hello there! If you haven't yet made the move, really look into it carefuly. You want to make sure you are housed in a Western Style compound. The outside environment for women (married or single) is hostile. Mobility is limited, traveling alone by taxi is risky, and so. Nonetheless, if living in a secure compound and your learn how to survive as a single woman it should be fine...

Hello,

I am a single American woman who will be moving to Dhahran soon. I've read a lot about my restrictions. What I want to know is what can I do for recreation as a single woman besides shopping in the mall. I love nature photography. What are my options to see and the landscape of Saudia Arabia?

Are there any single women who are willing to share their experience?

As a single American women living in Khobar, I have to say that I have not had any problems. I have taken a taxi by myself and I am not afraid to travel around by myself. I would recommend that you find a reliable driver. I found mine by asking the people I work with. Please feel free to email if you have any questions.

Hello Everyone Thanks for your response I have decided to accept the position. I will be teaching and yes I will be living in a compound and working for a company who does have a driver so I guess that's a PLUS. I am open minded and am looking forward to relocating and experiencing a new culture.

Hello ladies,

Damman and Khober are better choices for expats than Riyadh. The eastern province (including Damman and Khobar) is more liberal and people there are more open minded. Life is more organized in general and there are some nice beaches, not to mention that Bahrain is about 45 minutes away!

There will be some challenges of course but I am sure you'll enjoy it and have some fun!

Should you need any help, just send me an Email and I'll be happy to answer your questions.

Cheers,

Omar

Thank you for the information. I'm a person that likes to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. What would be the worst case for housing for a single woman?

what kind of thoughts are on your mind dear sbaker523

nothing going to be worse
just have good feelings and enjoy your new expirement.

it seem you are rational and thinks good.

if your employer offers you a good home then this big issue is solved. you will find good people around you specialy foreigon ladiesas you are, so you will get to know the situation and adapt to it.

my advice go with friends and buy what u need on weekly basis or monthly.

there are alot of gyms and spa inside the compounds and many malls and parks outhere so you will enjoy the nature and don't forget the gulf.

one point I think for transportation it would be a bus takes u from the compound to malls. if u need to go somewhere nessoery you can take the taxi but I prefer u go with other friend cuz those taxi drivers can't be trusted specially with alone beautiful ladies.

wish you nice experince
