I am a 48yr old female US citizen moving to KSA for work at the end of next month, so I am reading everything I can about life there. There seems to be a lot of negative info, but I know there are Western women who have been there for years and enjoy it, so I am hoping to read more positive comments. Anyway, about the Internet there, rather than bringing a ton of books, DVDs and music CDs, I would rather access these things from the Internet as I currently do at home. I am talking about yoga, exercise, health and wellness, inspirational, self-help type materials available online instead of bringing books and DVD's, and I would want to listen to free music sites such as Pandora. I don't know yet where in KSA I will be, and I might even be moving around every few months to different cities and towns. I am concerned about censorship and these things not being accessible on the Internet in KSA. Are decent movies and TV shows available on television there? What is available and what is censored on the Internet? Also, (unrelated) are there many places to get a massage, and what would it typically cost for an hour?

Not to worry .of course few things are cesored here in the Kindgdom.I live in Riyadh and life is ok .You will be living in a compound and youcan drive inside the compound .You can also take part in the social activities run by the recreation centers in the compounds such as coffe mornings etc..you can also sign up in some physical activities run inside the compounds such as yoga ,Zumba,Aerobics etc....You can also sign up in some Arabic Languages private courses run inside the compounds .Like I offfer myself some Language and gymnastics classes.Overall it is not bad and it depends really on the person and how he would plan for his daily life and also holidays because what you can do also is to plan to go and visit neighbouring countries sech as Bahrain ,UAE and Oman.I hope I gave a better idea about the life in Saudi. Please feel free to request any further information.
Kindest regards ,
Jamel

Hi there Sragan,
Yes, some sites are "censored" but there are alternatives, I personally use for blocked sites, that are available for free and can be used throughout the Gulf. You can still be able to access whatever you like.
As for the T.V; if you are into movies- new movies, you should subscribe to Showtime for example. There are a few TV bundles available aside from ARABSAT/ NILESAT/BLUEBIRD, the free ones.

Massage is also available but it is unfortunately not very common, I would love to find one for myself. I honestly do not know about what is offered for ladies but for men there isn't a good option.

Good luck

Thank you, jamel3013. Also, if I do not live in a compound, will I be able to go inside the compound to use any facilities such as the gym, pool, etc.?

Thank you, Local English Teacher. Is it illegal to use alternatives to access the blocked sites? Or does everyone do it without worrying?
