If you work for a hospital or oil industry you probably will get all your Rx free from the hospital.
Although Rx can be found outside in private pharmacies, they are often bought from China, so not as effective. I know the antidepressants and sedatives are quite ineffective. You would be better to bring a 2 yr supply with you. I also brought some large bottles of commony used things (ie: tylenol), since they only seem to sell really small quantities (ie 10 pills in a box) in Riyadh. Stores, including pharacies will order things for you but you will probably have moved back to Canada before it arrives!

You can buy almost all medications in pharmacies and without a prescription. Even medications like Prozac. If you have health insurance, they will most likely have a list of hospitals which your insurance supports. You probably will go to a hospital clinci for medical care; they have regular hours, and you have some choice of hospital and of the docs you want to see.

I found the health care system in Saudi to be incredible. Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer - a few months after arriving from the states. I decided to stay in Saudi to receive my treatment. Honestly, I was better cared for in Saudi than any hospital experience I've had in the states. I am located in Jeddah, but I've heard the hospitals in Rihadh are even better. You and your family will be fine. And it's true - medication is easily accessible as well as significantly less expensive than in America.

Warning: It is estimated that over 50% of drugs sold in KSA are counterfeit. Marketed as generics they're often traced to backstreet labs operating in Mumbai. Viag and antidepressants are the most popular. Packaging and blisterpacks look identical. Baking soda and chalk are common ingredients.

Hi, sorry to bother you long time after you posted this. My wife currently is about to go through her biopsy in Pakistan, where she's visiting and had a 4C bi-rad. Just to be prepared for any God forbid eventuality I was trying to check whether good breast cancer treatment is possible in the kingdom. Though I am currently in Khobar and will be in Riyadh soon after, can you please confirm where you got treatment in jeddah and how have the experience been since this post. Sorry to bother, appreciate your support.
