I have been offered a contract to work in Al-Ahsa, coming from the States. I'm interested in getting some cost of living ideas for a couple (Husband and wife). Will be working for JHAH (Aramco health).

I have lived here for 6 years and I'm from Calgary. Cost of living is low, gas is about 20 cents per liter, car insurance on a vehicle is between $100 to $300 per year, auto repair is inexpensive. Finding a vehicle is not a difficult process, There is no sales or income tax so you pay the price on the sticker. Food is inexpensive. The cost of accomodation varies, but you won't pay more than you're paying back home. Bear in mind that women can't drive so it can often be somewhat inconvenient. Remember that Saudi is a developing country, you won't generally find McDonald's like efficiency here. However on a positive note, there's a Tim Hortons in Rashid Mall in Al Khobar, which is really nice place to go for a Timmy's coffee and donut.
Hofuf is an OK place, it about 2 hours drive from Al Khobar/Dammam and Bahrain is still within driving distance.

Saudi Arabia is country with low taxes so everything you can get in a reasonable prices maybe much less than Canada. Just housing is expensive.

I'm interested to hear that you're considering a job with JHAH... my husband accepted a Senior Paramedic position with JHAH in Al Hasa and just arrived in Saudi Arabia 6 days ago. He went through Aramco's orientation in Dhahran and is now in Al Hasa starting work. Once he gets visas for our children and I, we will join him there. Perhaps we will meet someday : ) I don't know what position you're considering or what questions you might have but if you pm me I can probably answer some of them or put you in touch with my husband.
