" I am in Edinburgh from the usa looking for a job now. I like it a lot! & I really need advice too. The Emigration guy was firm re getting a work permit. But he said I could volunteer for £35. a week, which is a foot in a lot of doors I think. Can''t just sit still! "

" My husband and I and our 2 children, son(6), daughter(5) are thinking of relocating. The Shetland Islands is one of the places we''re considering. Anyone have any input? Appreciate it. "

" I understand it''s proud to be one of the remotest places in the world; 2 ferries a day, but very self-reliant. Expensive, but with riches in the folk life. "

Why are you moving to Edinburgh and when? I lived outside of Aberdeen for over 4 years several years ago and if I ever get the chance to move back there I will. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and the whole country is just wonderful and so are the people

I lived there for 4 years and have family there now.It is a beautiful cosmopolitan city. It would be a relatively easy place to transition to.Lots to see and do.You will see many familiar clothing stores and restaurants. With the current $ exchange items are more expensive than in the USA.Homes are typically smaller. This is a wonderful city to live in.

Although I haven't lived in Edinburgh I have very fond memories of visiting. It is an amazing city, and the UK in general had such an effect on me that I'm now seriously considering moving there myself from the US. If anyone has any suggestions as to where I should start looking into such a move I'd really appreciate it! Thanks a lot! ~Briggy

hello, I am planning on moving to edinburgh from vancouver and am applying for entry clearance (my grandparents are scottish) and was wondering if anyone has done the same. I'm also wondering how the present job market is, particularly in the fields of graphic design or computer-based design. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I am from India and wish to move to Scotland since itis a nice and peaceful country. Alsomy sons education could be taken care of; but I do not know where to start from;how to get a work permit? My husband is a senior Army officer who is due to retire shortly and I am an MBA with 20 years experience in import and sale of bullion and now I have graduated to senior level general mgt position.I am basically interested in the care- home sector where I can contribute to help& look after the senior citizens and earn sustainable livelihood. Hi Vicki! My husband is applying to transfer to Aberdeen. I am excited and nervous! What can you tell me about it that I won't be able to find just searching the net. I am really not finding much helpful information! Thanks, Karyn

Aberdeen is a nice city as it's not too big and has all the amenities you would expect. There are lovely big granite appartments in the centre and larger houses on the periphery. You can walk across the city in 30 minutes. There are good air and train links and easy access by road to beautiful royal Deeside. The east coast of Scotland generally has more dry weather than the west. Aberdeen does get quite a lot of mist though as it's by the sea. If you don't like that then moving 10 miles inland along Deeside is enough to have better weather (Banchory/ Drumoak/ Durris) or if you don't mind being further away Aboyne is also very nice. If you want to be by the sea Stonehaven is nice small town and is commuting distance to Abderdeen but it gets a lot of mist also. Robert Gordon's College is a good (private) secondary school. Banchory Acadamy is a very good state secondary school. If you are looking for property the best place to look is ww.aspc.co.uk and use the search facilities. I hope this helps. (I lived in Aberdeen from 1994-2000 then in Woodlands of Durris, a friendly Hamlet on South Deeside, 2005-2007). There are a lot of incomers to Aberdeen due to the Oil Industry and it's two Universities - University of Abdeen and Robert Gordon's University but I found the more rural places more friendly as well as having instant access to the beautiful countryside
