My husband was offered a job in Aberdeen and we are relocating there pretty quickly. I need any info possible on schools for my 11 year old daughter whom I presently homeschool because the schools where we are located are horrible. Can I continue to homeschool her the rest of the year and then register her for school for grade 7? What are the requirements? Also my 21 year old daughter is coming with us and hopes to finish her college there. What universities do you recommend and any info to help her would be appreciated. I am so looking forward to this move. I have always dreamed of living in Scotland! And anything else you can offer to help me would be appreciated as I am sure there are a million questions I have forgotten to ask. Thanks to all who respond.

Hello!
My husband is applying for a transfer to Scotland in Aberdeen. I read your post and I was wondering if you could let me know how your experience was! I am so excited and nervous!

Thanks!

We moved from Philly to Glasgow, after many years of looking to do so. We have had a great experience, and mixed reaction from the locals! My advice to you is get into an area of the city that is local. The posh areas are filled with tourists, and when moving, you're no longer a tourist! Get used to answering the question, ''What made you move here?'' As it is asked by almost everyone we come across. Make your response clear and concise. Many Scots, surprisingly don't understand why one who could go anywhere in the world choose their we bit.
Good Luck!

My lady friend and I are considering moving to Scotland sometime in the next few years or sooner if possible. We are most interested in the Highlands (Ft Williams to Mallaig) or Isle of Skye but open to anything right now. Children are grown, we're 51 and 48, intelligent, active, love the outdoors. We have capital to purchase, start, or buy into an existing business but we'd also look at seasonal work too. Any suggestions where to start?

Aberdeen is a nice city as it's not too big and has all the amenities you would expect. The east coast of Scotland generally has more dry weather than the west. Aberdeen does get quite a lot of mist though as it's by the sea. If you don't like that then moving 10 miles inland along Deeside is enough to have better weather (Banchory/ Drumoak/ Durris) or if you don't mind being further away Aboyne is also very nice. If you want to be by the sea Stonehaven is nice small town and is commuting distance to Abderdeen but it gets a lot of mist also.
Robert Gordon's College is a good (private) secondary school. Banchory Acadamy is a very good state secondary school. If you are looking for property the best place to look is ww.aspc.co.uk and use the search facilities.
I hope this helps. (I lived in Aberdeen from 1994-2000 then in Woodlands of Durris, a friendly Hamlet on South Deeside, 2005-2007). There are a lot of incomers to Aberdeen due to the Oil Industry and it's two Universities - University of Abdeen and Robert Gordon's University but I found the more rural places more friendly as well as having instant access to the beautiful countyside

I can't give you any advice but I would love to move to Aberdeen and if you'd be willing, would you please let me know if you get any helpful advice? I've not got any children and I'm just an assistant teacher but I'm wondering what sort of responses you'll get about your move. Take care!
