I have a good opportunity and possibility of going to Scotland for 4 months on a Fulbright. I am a seasoned professional and have a family of 4 kids 13, 8, 7, and 4. I am wonderign if I come there, could i enroll my kids in the schools system there for the semester?
We will obviously rent for the 4 months, but want to make sure I can get my kids in school. We will be by Dundee, University of St. Andrews area.

Never been there so looking for help.

You would be able to enroll your kids in the public system without any difficulty however that would mean careful research into where to live as schools have catchment areas and getting into a good school if you are not in the right catchment area can be difficult. This will give you a start in your reattach http://www.educationscotland.gov.uk/scottishschoolsonline/index.asp We are moving back to Scotland after a period overseas and have decided to opt for private schooling essentially because we do not want to make the decision on where exactly to live until we're there.

Just to clarify terminology - I've obviously been away too long! The public education system (ie free) is actually refered to as the state education system in Scotland, fee paying schools are refered to as independent schools and there are too types, public schools and private schools. The public schools are the really posh ones (where the upper and upper-middle classes go) though they are 'public' because the offer scholarships, private schools have a huge range of variety (& cost). When I said you would have no difficulty I was referring to the state system. Also there aren't semesters in Scotland, there are terms starting Ausgust, January and after Easter. Each term has a half term break.
