I am in the process of interviewing International movers and I am so unsure of what I should pack and take to Scotland. What should I just get rid of and buy new in Scotland. Can everyone please give me your opinion and experience in making the move? thank you.

I would recommend a warm winter coat and waterproof outer clothing. If you have limited finances buy these items in Canada. The exchange rate on the Canadian/ US money makes it very expensive here. If you're not on a budget there is plenty of places to shop with lots of fun different brands. Good luck with your move. It's a very beautiful country.

Thank you for your response, I appreciate any and all help/ opinions. I suspected I would need plenty of warm clothes.I will be bringing many, and I love to shop!!!! I am wondering about furniture and appliances, should I bring my appliances and use converters? And Furniture, I planned on bringing my bedroom items but things like living room, dining room. Should I buy those Item once I get there? It is very expensive to ship Items, everything is based on weight, so I thought If I just sell my furniture and buy new it may save me some money. The other thing I thought is here in Texas the houses are huge, and thus so is my furniture. From what I am seeing houses are much smaller so I worry my furniture will not fit, and even if I make it fit it will swallow the room. hmmmm so much to consider..... I am looking forward to moving and living in this beautiful country.

What part of TX do U live? I live in Dallas TX & am from Glasgow Scotland.I 2 am planning 2 return. It is a pity U can't ph me but don't want 2 post my # do U want 2 post U'R's. I haven't found a shipping comp either, but an email I got from 1, talks about fumigation, as bedbugs R on the rise, esp here in Dallas reports 20% of homes have them, so they prob won't B 2 happy about U bringing beds,sofas/even clothes.I wouldn't bring appliances, as far as I know if U'r converters break down, U can't buy them there & I think U need different converters 4 diff things.I would also worry about taking breakable items. If U R going short term I would take as little as poss. I would only take clothing & Personal stuff U can't bear 2 part w/. Don't know how long U'r going 2 B there but U can buy a bed 4 199pounds. I'm sure members of my family if U don't know any1 there would tell U best stores 2 go 2. Older homes R bigger than new unless U R buying a higher end home (tho mayb U plan 2 rent) .My sis is selling her cottage>type in2 google show me little cloak cottage calderglen rd Lochwinnoch scotland & U'll see living rm kitchen is as big as here. It is higher end @300.000pounds. Let me know if U find reputable comp 4 shipping.Buy the noo.

I would not bring any appliances from the US to Scotland. They are different here and converters do not always work. Honestly it would be much better to purchase those things here. We use converters to charge our phones, iPad and laptop which work fine but that's about it. I'm not sure about furniture but if you're not really attached to it I'd purchase that here too.

To carrima, sorry I can't help you with a moving company. I am from AZ on a 6 month assignment for my husbands work. We are living in Ayr in company housing. If we were to relocate here for an indefinite period of time I would prefer to start new. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
