We are moving in August 2014 for a three year assignment. We will be in Aberdeen, and we will not be able to send our children to ISA. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/advice for what to do for schooling? Concerned that the local schools will match up with our US credit needs so the girls can have a US high school diploma. We at this time are planning to do online schooling at home, but also desire an opportunity to connect with other families and children (local and expat) so our children can have some social opportunities. Thanks for any thoughts/idea/suggestions!

Hi Kalishfan,
The schools in Aberdeen are mostly very good, but other than the ISA which you say is not an option, I don't know of any that work towards the US high school diploma. The most popular state schools in Aberdeen are the Aberdeen Grammar School and Cults Academy - but you need to live in catchment area for a chance of a place (not guaranteed). These two schools have cathcments covering the most expensive areas to live in Aberdeen.
School and nursery places throughout Aberdeen are very in short supply. If a school has loads of places, it's probably one you don't want your children to go to!

@ the v worst they could always take the GED when they return 2 the states. I was educated in Scotland, when I took the GED, in US,I had been out of school many years. The Tester was surprised I was going 2 take the test in 1 sitting ( I didn't want 2 go & come back another day. Seems a lot who take it leave & revise 4 the next segment.I passed easily & am convinced if I had 2 retake the Scottish O levels, I would have been more doubtful of passing & the test would have been a lot longer & prob not in 1 day. Otherwise mayb a school in US would let the kids take the actual test.
