American moving to Glasgow

Hello- I am from Maine, USA, and I have been accepted to Glasgow Veterinary School for Fall 2015. I am looking to move to Glasgow with my long-term boyfriend. Obtaining a student visa with the university will be fairly simple; however, I am concerned and confused about how my long-term boyfriend will be able to accompany me to Glasgow. What are the steps we need to take in order for him to apply for a visa for citizenship. Should he apply for a work visa or something else? He works in the natural gas industry right now, but he is very talented and willing to do anything. He is also afraid he needs to surrender his USA citizenship, is that true? Any advice for our travels, citizenship application, or living in Glasgow is appreciated!

He would need 2 apply 4 working permit but don't think its that easy 2 get. He would not need 2 give up his US citizenship, but if working would B subject 2 double taxation.West end safest area 2 live & lots of students live there, can also B expensive 4 rent. I can recommend Cameron & Wright on Crow Rd as leasing agents.
