American getting UK citizenship to live and work int the EU?

Hello!

I am an American student studying in Scotland. I have been here for 3 years and have been planning what I want to do after graduation. I have no great desire to return to the states and would prefer to live and work in the EU or the UK.

I have been hearing loads of stories of americans struggling for years to find jobs that will sponsor their visa applications.

If I stay in the UK for another year after my graduation I can apply for citizenship making it possible for me to live and work in the EU for as long as I want but that would make me stay in the UK for much longer then I would like. Is there a better course of action?

Thanks for the help!

I don't know enough about visa applications to help. Have you tried speaking to the American consulate in Edinburgh? Even if they can't help directly they may be able to point you in the right direction, or they may know of someone who has faced the same decisions as you.
