" I taught at a Polytechnic for 1 year. You only need a bachelor''s degree to teach there (17-20 years olds), no degree in education. There are several in Singapore. Here is the website for one and I''m sure you can find the others from it: http://www.np.edu.sg/ When you consider the monthly salary, consider, too that taxes are low, and that working, educated mothers get a great tax break; my taxes were trivial. Most offer housing for expats at quite low monthly rents, too. Feel free to email me at wdorf@gmx.de Eve "

" Barby, I have seen on the Internet that pay for teachers at international schools is high. You may want to do a search. The Singapore American School SAS has a web site set up to hire new teachers and a really good list of things to bring with you, a time line of how to move, what to ship and the shipping methods. Go to www.sas.edu.sg/admin.htm for the Singapore American School page of employees and link to home page. Also, try the International School web site, it has a list of 30 international schools in Singapore. www.contactsingapore.org.sg/study/internationsch.htm We are moving to Singapore August 2001 and need a school for my two children ages 11 and 12. My 12 year old needs tutoring in reading and math, he has dyslexia, he is also gifted. I am still looking for a school for my children. We are from the USA Cynthia "

" For anyone who has worked in Singapore but is now based in the US, I heard that on Feb 12 in New York City there will be a gathering of like-minded people which is being arranged by Old Asia Hands (a networking/social group which holds informal gatherings in San Francisco and New York City). For more details, check out www.evite.com/r?iid=IXJHDOUFHGOTPLPQKQBI or contact tiffany@asiahands.com. Best wishes for the Year of the Snake! "

" hi, I definitly would recommend, that you send your kids to United World College. I went there myself and graduated in 1998. The teachers and staff are great and very dedicated to the students. The school offers many activities and is brilliant in its diversity of cultures and nationalities. I am in the UK now and miss Singapore and the school terribly. But believe me, United World College is a very very good school and I am so grateful I had the possibility to attend it. Hope you have a wonderful time in Singpore. It is a great city. "
