" Hello everyone, I have just learnt an incredible amount from reading these previous posts...but still have a few questions. We may be moving to Singapore some time in the next 3-4 months and we would stay for approximately 12-18 months. we have a 1 year old daughter and are considering that it may be time to start trying for number 2. This would mean (all going well) that our second child would be born in Singapore. I wondered if anyone can tell me of personal experiences or secondhand info on childbirth, obstetricians, hospital stays, child/maternal health facilities in Singapore. After being spoiled beautifully at a Private hospital in Sydney with the birth of our first, I am a little apprehensive about going through the whole childbirth experience in a foreign country with no friends or family nearby for support. Also, wondering if anyone knows about playgroups, mothers clubs...anything that may keep my daughter and I occupied and would enable us to make friends. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Sibby "

" I have alot to say but better you not take advice from a man with this subject. If you have never been abroad before, relax, Singapore is one of the prime locations to live and work around the world, especially with a young family. The expat lifestyle brings people together, you will find yourself having a greater opportunity to meet new friends in a foreign location like Singapore than probably at home and should not have a problems finding a group of individuals from home to help you through any problems you may encounter. It''s funny, when abroad, one finds him/her self having the best of times with people they would not normally find themselfs associating with back home. Assuming you are Aussie, check out the following link from the Austraiian & New Zealand Assoc.. I''m ceratain they will be a great help to you, that is if you can get them away from the PUB. http://www.anza.org.sg/ . Also check this link for most any other info an expat in Singapore will need. http://www.singaporerental.com/. The expat lifestyle can be most fullfilling if one goes into it with an adventurous frame of mind. Luckily for you, Singapore will pose few real problems for you helping you maintain the adventurous attitude with ease. All The Best............... "

" Dear Male Yank, I posted a rather lengthy reply to you soon after you posted, but whilst spell-checking my message something went awry and I lost the whole damn thing! So rather than try to remember what I had written I will just say thank you very much for your encouraging and helpful response...and thanks for the details on ANZA...will come in very handy! It is 4 weeks now until we move to Singapore and I am getting very excited! Thanks again! Sibby XX PS If you really do have a lot to say re: the childbirth thing, then I definitely would love to hear your thoughts... "

I lost my lengthy reply as well. Don''t have time for another right now. will try again later. Keep the faith. Jump into your new adventure with an open mind and a good attitude and you will thoroughly enjoy yourself. By all means get active in Singapore immediately upon your arrival and really work at building a new group of friends and acquaintances as soon as possible and you will get the most out of your experience. Must go Now. All The Best....................

" Hi Sibby, I''m currently living in S''pore. A great message board which you may find really helpful is www.expatsingapore.com.sg On this board you will find answers to hospitals and child groups. I myself have a 1 year old and am never at a loss of activities for us both. Anza, as mentioned has a great play group, there is a place called Gymboree which is for under 5''s and has classes for age groups and ""free play sessions"" where by any under 5''s can all play together. Huge plastic mats and some fab climbing frames and so on. Music lasses, swimming, little Tykes play area''s and much more. I have been to two private hospitals here, both as a patient and with my son. Brilliant service. Feel free to mail me direct. jodietay@singnet.com.sg "
