Hi... My mother is Slovenian but a US citizen. We recently located her family there in Slovenia, and met them. We fell in love with the place. My sister wants to retire there. EscapeArtist.com had articles on this supposed "loophole", however, I doubt if this is accurate info. Apparently, this info was based on an old law when it was still considered to be Yugoslavia.I spent a lot of time there and was told it is "impossible" to do this unless you are a "firm"... The only alternative was for my mother to apply for Slovenian citizenship. This is now in the works. Then, my sister and I will be eligible due to birthrite. It is a long and complicated process. It must be applied for while residing in the US, through the Slovenian consulate's office in your area. Have you received anything stating there is another way?
