" Hello - I am moving to Capetown in a few weeks and am looking for advice on areas to live in. I am moving with my wife and we are both in our early 30s. We LOVE cool bars, nice restaurants and occasionally the club scene. Our initial thoughts are Sea Point, Clifton, etc. Any thoughts from those of you down there? Oh...I am American (from NYC) and she is from Australia. Cheers, MGP "

" I am a South African living in Johannesburg and am on this web site as we are moving to Paris for a year. Cape Town, like any big city has peak-hour traffic problems, so I would advise living as close to the office as possible. Having said that, in my limited experience of Cape Town, I would suggest the suburbs above the City Bowl, Sea Point (which can be rough at night), Camps Bay (lovely!), Clifton etc. If you want to be able to walk around in the evening, you will have to stick to the touristy areas, and even then you will probably use your car to go places as it''s safer. If I can help you with any more information, please let me know. I have an ex-husband in Cape Town who can provide me with more details about suitable suburbs if you need them. Good luck with your move - I know how stressful it can be. "

" Hi Please don''t even consider Sea Point, it has become a drug and prostitute haven (little Amsterdam). Clifton is great if you can afford it, Houtbay is a bit out the way but also a great place to live. I live in the Blouberg era and love it down here. Although it lacks cool bars and restaurants there are a few good one''s. It is a very safe era with great sea and montain views and everything is within 30 minutes driving time. Best of luck. Shaun "

" Clifton is great, but Sea Point is a large area so make sure it is a good part of Sea Point - probably higher up the hill. Cheers TONY "

" Most of Seapoint is awful. The better part is too expensive for what it gives you. Try HOUTBAY or LLANDUDNO .. although we found Houtbay by far the best place to live: easy going, beaches right there, 5 min driving to the nude beach, shops around, 20 minutes to the city, and stunning views with a reasonable amount of privacy. and not as expensive as Llandudno or Capms Bay. Hi, I realise that you posted your original email over a year ago and that you may not receive this, but I thought I would give it a try anyway! The reason being, that I noted that your wife is Australian and so am I! I have recently moved to Cape Town with my fiance (who is Sth African) but it would be great to meet some fellow aussies!!! It would be great to hear from you.
Cheers Katherine

hey i just move here too, from new orleans. i live in the cbd in a great complex (small but near the parliament, museums, long street bars and clubs, restaurants and movie theatres). hout bay and camps bay are great but sleepy. stay away from seapoint, obs and woodstock. tamberskloof and gardens should be just right for you. good luck. fvno@aol.com
