We are an expatriate family that have been living for the past two years in Beirut, but we have finally decided that there's no place like Africa,(my daughters were born in Nigeria) and now I'm so looking forward to go to South Africa, where we hope to settle for good. I only have a question. Please could anybody tell me what are the costs in South Africa? How much would we have to pay for a 3 bedroom house with garden (we will take our dogs and cats), to rent. How much for food for 3 people? Generally speaking how much money would I need? We are a quiet family without many pretences. We'll be going either to Cape Town or Kimberley. Also if there is a dog lover around could he/she tell me if I can get Eukanuba over there? Thank you very much! I would be so grateful for an answer!

Hi,
I'm not South African, but an interested American. This is a response to one of your questions. You should check out the wonderful web sites for real estate agencies in ZA. ( Some of them have rental property, too.) One suggestion is http://www.pamgolding.co.za/default.asp

hi,
costs vary depending on the city and suburb you are going to . Cape Town for example is a lot more expensive than Kimberly. However Cape Town is a far bigger city than Kimberly, and is very cosmopolitian.
A 3 bedroomed house with Garden can go for anything from R2500 - R5000 for an average house. obviously cheaper than that in some areas, and more expensive in other.
You can also take a look at www.everitt.co.za, or www.privateproperty.co.za, alternatively look at the search engine, www.ananzi.co.za. Most Estate agents do rentals too.

Dear Normaza,
I'm emailing you from our offices in Johannesburg. I run a relocation compnay called Elliott Relocations which can assist you with a basic cost of living document as far as costs for housing and living are concerned. Once we know your requirements/needs for a home, we can research the market for you and suggest a number of estate agents and areas. As mentioned previously, Cape Town is very expensive as far as homes are concerned. Kimberley less so although housing options may not be as varied as CT. Drop me a direct mail on paolol@elliott.co.za and we can assist.
