My wife and I are considering retirement in SA several years from now. I'm interested in the area around Bethlehem/Clarens/Golden Gate Park. I understand that there are some country retirement homes being built there.

Are there any particular advantages to living 'in the country' in a planned development as opposed to one of the affluent enclaves in say..CT?

I would like to "base" out of SA for summer and rent other places during April - Oct.

Hello Mike,

This sounds like a wonderful plan. I do not know the Free State but the area you describe is well built up and would not be as expensive as the major cities.
