Hi, I hope you can help. We recently decided to move to SA from the UK. My partner is South African, I am British, and we have a son (17 months) who was born here. I am in the process of organising everything and am a bit confused about visas.
Basically, I have been told that we could go on a holiday visa and sort out a permanant one out there, but I am worried about flying on a one-way ticket-will they let me in to SA?!
Then I am unsure what visa I need. Either a relatives or permanant residency I think but all the information I'm getting contradicts itself. We are staying with my fiancees family who all live out there so no problems there, but I'd be grateful if you have any information on visas and which one myself and my son require. This move is for good and I don't want to have to come back again!
My email is chambers.sj@googlemail.com. Any info AT ALL would be really apprecieated!
Thanks Sarah

I could use advice about how to be in S.A. off and on over a 10 month period while doing research for my PhD at UNISA. I am a nonresidential doctoral student from the US, and I will not be working in S.A. during the time I do research. I don't fit the student visa status which seems to assume residential study in South Africa. Any advice about what immigration status would apply? Thanks. US Researcher
