Yea, people in South Africa tend to keep to themselves but I think if you joined a few of these social functions it would introduce new friends.

This applied when we were in varsity and I hope it helps now. We joined the beginner's dance class and made lots of friends (SA and international) there. One of my friends is part of Bakti Yoga classes (not sure If I got the correct spelling) whilst the other made friends in his Kung fu classes.

Wine tasting, bird watching groups are quite common there.

Plus, did you check out the local tour group for a weekend tour of city? You also meet people from other African countries there.

Hi, I am at same situation... just moved here from Prague with my partner whose got a job here.. I am trying to get to know some people.. but have to work on it.. Trying to enroll for Uni but this will only start in January.. I have also joined gym but you do not tend to talk to just anyone next to you on a treadmill.. I wish :) Well, I might try the yoga classes outside of the gym.. the point is you could meet people at work but I have to look for one.. hey, lot of things to be done.. I sometimes say, my boyfriend has a ball since he got lots of things served just on a plate.. Well, life is tought but I am tougher :]
