Hello everyone, I'm Morag and I'm hoping that someone on here may be able to give me some advice.

I currently live in Scotland and this morning hubby and myself have finally decided on our destination for emigrating, South Africa

We are planning to head over in June for a holiday so if anyone has any recommendations for destinations, they will be greatly received. We are looking for a city/beach base holiday just to give us a rough idea of what the place is like. I know SA is a big place but any yay's or nae's would give us something to go on.

We are fairly open minded about where we want to live but would love to be near greenery and the sea, oh and own a bit of land

So if anyone can help I look forward to hearing from you.

Morag

This may not be relevant any more as you state you are already visiting SA in June and you probably have made your travel arrangements, however, I would advise you to look at Cape Town and surrounds. You are near the sea and the area abounds in natural beauty. Many beautiful places are only a short drive away and there are many great locations for short weekend getaways. You must just do some research before making a permanent move. A holiday is usually very different from the daily grind and many issues are not apparent. Be prepared for security issues South Africa is the crime capitol of the world. You will have to live with burglar bars and security gates on all your windows and doors, have an alarm and a contract with an armed response security company, be constantly vigilant for pickpockets and muggers, always on the look out for hi-jackers. Never leave anything in your car or have items like handbags visible while your are driving as car break ins and smash & grabs are a regular occurances. Don`t get me wrong I love living in Cape Town however, if you make a decision to move to SA you should know what you are getting into and have an exit strategy in place. Violent crime has reached epidemic proportions (many people are leaving the country because they do not feel safe anymore) you may find that you cannot live with it and you wouldn't want to be in a position, where you are not able to return to your home country.
