Good luck with your move to Joburg! Rentals there are fairly easy to find but I would suggest you work with a relocation agent in order to get settled properly. Not only can they help with find a safe rental but also can give advice on schools and the very important security issues. Don't take any advice given about the security lightly! It is a huge problem that requires one to be a bit hypervigilant.......but will pay off if taken seriously. In our 3 years there we never had an incident, thankfully. Hope you grow to love Joburg and South Africa as much as we did......warts and all!

Hi there. While crime is an ongoing problem, vigilance and care go a long way to keeping yourselves and your belongings safe. Dependant on whereabouts in Gauteng/Joburg you are relocating to, there are many options for schooling etc. The Northern suburbs are the more affluent, and provide a number of very good private schools (sandton, fourways, paulshof, bryanston). Rentals vary in these suburbs according to your needs, but a good site to log onto for a fair idea would be www.justletting.co.za. I have lived in JHB for 13 yrs, and have been very happy here. I am relocating to the coast to complete my illustration on a childrens book (taking a year out), and I am planning on renting my property in Paulshof out fullly furnished. This may be an option for you if you dont come right with rentals. Paulshof is a ver community orientated area, with excellent security and private schools close by, and easy access to Sandton CBD and the freeways. Good luck with your move. Melissa
