My company has asked me to consider a post in Africa. I work in malaria research and control. I travel extensively internationally but have not lived abroad.

My company is suggesting South Africa, possibly Pretoria because of security. Could you comment on Pretoria and suggest other locations in SA that have airport access.

I would like to consider other countries such as Kenya. Nairobi might be a good choice because of the number of Aid agencies headquartered there.

In general What are the key indicators to consider when choosing a location for an apartment.

What other factors should a person unfamiliar with living in Africa be aware of? I guess I am asking about those key lessons learned after you arrived, but you did not think important or even considered before you moved.
