Advice on moving to SA

Hi all
I'm considering a move to SA, prob Cape Town but have read some offputting job adverts in my research thus far. After conversion (back to the aussie dollar) some of the salaries offered aren't worth getting out of bed for. Do you have to be a structural engineer working on a World Cup 2010 stadium to earn a salary you can live off? I have an office admin background but would like to make more use of my videography and video editing skills. Is there much demand there at the moment for camera operators / editors?

Hi!!! I have read your request. I must tell you that our standard of living in SA is great and salaries are geared to provide for our living expenses.....The way we live here you wont find it any where in the world. I have travel the world and I keep coming back to SA. I know that we do have a problem with crime but the government is doing all they can to wipe out the bad elements out of the country and specially now that the world cup is around the corner. I have just come back from Chile and the crime there is also bad..work wise I ma sure that you will be able to find a job in your field..but the place to look for work in Johannesburg not Cape Town...I hope that I help in a small way if you have any further queries please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Hi there,

If i understand correctly you are from Australia, why do you want to move to South Africa??
I've lived here my whole life ( 25 years) and last year decided enough is enough. Me and my husband got a job in Canada and are just waiting for our permits and were on our way. Yes, south africa is a beautiful diverce country, and our people is friendly and helpful, but to be quite honest from my point of few thats about it at the moment. *feeling bad to bad-mouth my country which i love dearly*. But we have to face reality. Jobs is Not that easily obtainable ESPECIALLY when youre cocasion. Crime is Very bad, even worst in JHB.If you havent been raped, hijacked , mugged etc, youre not in JHB.
Why do you think south africans immegrate yearly by the Thousands?!
As i said earlier on, i love my country, and it will always have a place in my heart, but you have to be realistic about your future and those of your children. I maybe a critic, and there are people that are going to disagree with me ,and thats fine, everybody are entitled to theyre own opinion, which are gonna be changed later if not sooner when they loose a loved one due to crime here, or end up in hospital themselves, because someone wanted to rob them of a R20 and felt the need to shoot them for it. For those who have never experienced it and believe they never will.. Good for you, and i dont wanna be in your shoes when you wake up someday!
So, Please do rethink your decision on moving to sunny south africa.

Hope this help. :/

yikes Esmaree...

i was in south africa for a month and a half last year and loved it... cape town's a fantastic city... i never had any trouble, and did experience alot of white paranoia (i'm white myself)

that said, i have read stats and realise there is a big crime problem...

also, i have heard it's hard to get work if you're a white...

you're post has made me re-think a little... i'd love to live in south africa.. and dont really need alot of money, just enough to live and enjoy life....
